Middle School Specialty Programs Attention 5th Grade Parents:
If your son or daughter plans to apply for a middle school specialty program that requires an essay, I am offering two dates for students to write their essay under my supervision. Essays may NOT be completed at home. If students are not able to attend either of these essay dates, you MUST contact the specialty school and arrange a time for your child to write the essay there. The dates are: January 17th and 18th. Please email me or return the permission slip that was sent home last week if you would like your child to participate.  December Bus of the Month Congratulations to bus #121 for being December's Bus of the Month. This is the second time bus #121 has earned more PAWS for excellent behavior than any other bus- way to go!!!

ATTENTION MILITARY FAMILIES: All military students with parents who are activity duty or deployable will receive several great gifts from Trevor Romain. Please fill out the form sent home with students in Friday folders if you meet either of these criteria.
Parent Workshop: Homework Help! Please join me on Monday October 10th at 9:30am in the library for a parent program titled, Homework Help. Helping Your Child With Homwork Shouldn't Be a Battle. The program will be facilitated by child therapist, Danica Copp, LCSW. Ms. Copp currently works at Child and Fmaily Counseling located in Prince William County. If you plan to attend, please RSVP.

Peer Mediation Congratulations to Miss Sushner's 2011-2012 Peer Mediators. The following student will be working with Miss Sushner to help students solve peer related problems: Ajah Lewis, Morgan Gibbs, Shelby Jampole, Logan Ball, Amy Hills, and Austin Lopez. Thank you to everyone who applied.
Peer mediation training will take place on Fridays from 2:45-3:30, beginning on September 30th, for a total of 6 weeks. After completion of the peer mediation training program, students will be ready to mediate.
Hugs and Kisses On October 21st we will bring the play, Hugs and Kisses, to Henderson Elementary school. Although the play is entertaining, its purpose is to prevent child sexual abuse. Parents do have the option of requesting that thier child not view this play, letters about this option will also be going home within the next few weeks.
New Student Groups Several new student groups have been formed and will be running for the next 3 weeks. If you have a child who is new to Henderson (grades 2-5) and you would like him/her to participate in a new student group, please contact me via email.
